The Team Australia Kangaroos have come away with fifth place overall at the 2018 Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations (SON) in Poland over the weekend. The Kangaroos fell just one point short of landing on the podium overall after a tight tussle with Poland and Denmark over both nights racing.

Captain Jason Doyle was back at his best throughout both nights racing claiming seven wins in his 12 heats to leave the meeting with 29 points.

Max Fricke will be better for the experience and got valuable track time against the world’s best, leaving Wroclaw with six points.

The Kangaroos had their best night on night two, claiming 20 points and finishing just one point a drift of Poland and Great Britain, whilst Russia took the night with 22 points showing how close the racing was.

Kangaroos Captain, Doyle knew coming into the night points would be crucial; “It was a tough night (Night 2) we were trying to chase down points and do our best, but we weren’t getting great starts and that made things hard.

“This was the first time I got to be captain of the Kangaroos in the world pairs finals. Thank you for the honour and next year I hope to do it again and improve our result,” finished a proud Doyle.
Mark Lemon Kangaroos Team Manager knew it would be tough; “We needed a big one in the last heat and few races to go our way to land on the podium, but it is a world championship after all and the boys gave it their all, it just didn’t quite go to plan for us. A big thank you to CBS Bins, Gillman Speedway and Motorcycling Australia for their support throughout our campaign,” said Lemon.
