Competitors in the upcoming Australian Speedway Championships and FIM Oceania Speedway Championship won’t be just battling for local glory: they’ll also put themselves in the mix for 2026 world championship qualifying action.

Every year the FIM Track Racing Commission allocates spots to Motorcycling Australia (MA) for Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) qualifying events (or in the case of SGP4, direct entry into the single decider). The 2026 allocation is:

  • SGP: Three positions
  • SGP2: Four positions
  • SGP3: Three positions
  • SGP4: Two positions

As per MA’s National Individual and Team Selection Policy and, after consultation with the MA Track Commission, the positions will be allocated as follows:

SGP

  • The first qualifying position goes to first place in the 2026 Australian Championship;
  • The second qualifying position goes to the highest placed Australian in the 2026 FIM Oceania Championship*; and
  • The third qualifying position goes to second place in the 2026 Australian Championship.
  • One Australian will compete at each 2026 SGP qualifying round, with the goal a spot in the FIM SGP Challenge where the top four will then earn qualification for the 2027 SGP series.

SGP2 (U21)

  • The four positions go to the top four in the 2025 Australian U21 Speedway Championship.
  • Two Australians will compete in one 2026 SGP2 qualifying round and one each in the two others, followed by a three-round world championship.

SGP3 (U16 250cc)

SGP4 (11-13yrs, 190cc)

In addition to the solo allocations in 2026, the FIM Track Racing Commission has also announced Australia, as the reigning Speedway of Nations champion, will be seeded directly into the 2026 Speedway World Cup final alongside host nation Poland on August 29, while Australia will be one of seven teams competing in the 2026 Speedway of Nations2 (U21) in the Czech Republic on May 22.
