Motorcycling Australia will take a powerful five-rider line-up into the 2026 FIM Speedway World Cup (SWC) final in Warsaw on August 29, where over 50,000 spectators are expected to fill the largest football stadium in Poland to watch all the action unfold.

FIM Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) regulars Brady Kurtz, Jason Doyle and Max Fricke will be joined by Rohan Tungate and Ryan Douglas in the first SWC final to be held in three years, with Australia to take on host nation and defending champion Poland, Great Britain and Denmark on a purpose-built track at the PGE Narodowy Stadium.

The Team Austalia roster was trimmed from an initial 10-rider squad announced in mid-August, with Douglas and Tungate to now make their SWC debuts in what’s expected to be an epic battle between the four leading speedway nations.

Kurtz will be the Team Australia captain for the first time.

Tungate, who recently qualified to become a full-time SGP rider in 2027, could be a real X-factor in Warsaw. He’s been named as the substitute rider, which means the 35-year-old can be called into action anytime by Australian team manager Mark Lemon.

Meanwhile, seasoned SGP riders Kurtz, Doyle and Fricke know all about relentless pressure, trusting their instincts and fighting fire with fire – traits they will have to bring to the table in Warsaw as they all chase unfinished business in the SWC paddock.

Australia’s last SWC victory was way back in 2002, with Doyle 16 at the time and Kurtz and Fricke just starting school. Doyle, the 2017 SGP world champion, has the most SWC experience of the trio, making his debut in 2013 when Australia finished third.

“We’re going to Warsaw with a strong group of riders who are proud to represent Australia and who are capable of competing with the very best,” said Lemon.

“The objective is clear: we want to put ourselves in a position to compete for the gold medal and bring the Ove Fundin Trophy back to Australia.”

Named in honour of Swedish speedway legend and five-time individual world champion Ove Fundin, the SWC trophy represents the ultimate prize in international team speedway.

With Jason Crump, Leigh Adams and Ryan Sullivan in full flight, Australia won the first two SWC finals in 2001 and 2002. Since then, Australia has collected four silver and three bronze medals in 12 finals appearances.
